Love this hub in design and usage

Man, this hub is the best for your iMac or even laptop with a studio display. That is how I am using this hub, under my studio display for my MacBookPro. It allows you a couple of extra high-speed ports even with the older style USB plugs. No more having to turn the monitor around or having to find the laptop to insert the SD card. Yes, even has a port for a Micro-SD (great for the security camera) and a regular SD port for the digital cameras. But be sure to put the SD card in with the label-side down (upside down). Everything is as fast as I expected and it is fantastic! The base of the studio display is wider than the notch at the top of the case, but there is a plastic insert provided that allows the studio display base to sit evently on top of the hub. The silver colors don't match the studio display closely (given the different materials used) but that is just a minor issue compared to the functionality this will provide for your work flow. Highest recommendation!

Easily accessible forward-facing ports for my MacMini

USB hub with SSD enclosure? Or is it an SSD enclosure with USB hub?

It would've been prefect if the hub matched the size and corner radius of the MacMini. So it would be aesthetically compatible with both the iMac and MacMini. The MacMini has all the ports on the back. It's annoying to be constantly reaching around and moving the MacMini to access USB ports for temporary accessories. This INVZI hub is an elegant semi-permanent solution to my Mac Mini setup at home. I have front access to USB C, USB A, card reader, ethernet port AND a slot for an SSD drive!! WHAT?! I've never seen that before in this form factor. I'll be using the SSD slot as a backup to my Photos library.

The SD card reader is the upside down type. You have to insert the SD card with the label side down. The SD card is just held in with friction. No "push-in" spring lock like high-end card readers. It's barely inserted 1cm into the slot. Which I find strange. It works fine though. I'm being nit picky.

I like that they include this heavy dense foam pad to fill in the top cavity when the hub is not used as a base for an iMac. The pad creates a flat surface to put something else on top of the hub for versatility. The foam pad has surprising heft to it.

Good product

Works on iMac 2024 Retina just fine. My 3 star review is because Settings doesn't recognize the Ethernet correctly on MacOS Sequoia-- it comes up as a USB 10/100 Ethernet adapter. I was able to get through settings and set the thing to Full Duplex manually to get my gigabit speeds, so I'm not entirely complaining, just about the way the network adapter's actually recognized (Ethernet says disconnected, but it is infact online). I enjoy the M.2 slot, bought a Western Digital M.2 NVMe SSD for the thing and its nice to have storage in the monitor base for my Mac. The connection opens are super nice, I tested them all and recieve acceptable advertised speeds over USB-C. They're really great for a photographer and a video editor like me, to pop in my camera cookies and upload to iCloud/stick in iMovie for editing quickly. Best part is its built all into the base so its portable, I can take it to events with me, and have all my storage and peripheral options along side me. Very nice and I recommend them.

unobtrusive

This is an excellent solution to solve so many issues with the common iMac all in a simple elegant compact and unobtrusive design.

front-facing ports? YES
USB A ports? YES
ethernet? YES
SD card reader? YES
expandable storage? YES

It is a bit heavier than I anticipated, as it seems to be a solid block of metal to match the iMac. It lifts the iMac up a bit less than 1" from the desk, which should be ok for most. The main reason to like this is to plug nearly anything in effortlessly without a bunch of extra dongles or wires, and the hub sits seemingly into the iMac that it's barely noticeable. It's just so clean.

One thing I didn't really expect is the removable NVMe drive, since it's in its own enclosure, makes such a handy travel storage as well, so when leaving the house I can eject the drive and take it with me. A simple C-C USB cable lets me use the same storage on the go with my MacBook, so I can take nearly all my data with me. It is a lot more handy than I original thought.

EDIT: I found that https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRR9X3TR is basically identical to the INVZI NVMe enclosure and works as a replacement if original is lost or just want to expand and swap between 2.

iMac hub for base

This iMac hub extends a single USB-C port to a number of USB-A and C ports, Ethernet and even includes a removable SSD holder. The holder pops out like a SD card, but doesnt always pop out readily. Recommended for versatility.

Fantastic add on to your iMac workflow!

Ordered this for my wife's iMac to replace an older hub that doesn't really sit right under the screen (because it was designed for an older Mac but since it still worked great, we wanted to keep it) Truth be told, I feel kind of silly for not having found this sooner, but not only does it do all the same things, but it does them FASTER AND BETTER!

I'm not even sure where to start because everything about this hub is fantastic - from the design to the function. It is a great looking design that I think Jonny Ive (Apple's product designer for years) would be proud of. Clean lines, brushed metal, and sleek profile are just a few ways to describe it...it truly looks like an OEM Apple product, and I mean that as a huge compliment.

It fits the bottom/arm of the iMac perfectly AND safely, so no need to worry about scratching anything...it is a seamless process. Despite having a port for everything you need to plug in, it still has that compact and small footprint so you don't see dongles and plugs etc sticking out. Beautiful!

THEN...it just works...really, really well, no less. No latency, no issues, no drivers, no fuss...no need for instructions, even. It's truly plug and play. It will take you longer to open the box it came in than it will to start using it.

You can connect another monitor and a couple of USB items right into the base PLUS you can use it as an SD card reader, making it more convenient than even the iMac's native ability to do that (Sorry Apple LOL). And...the crown jewel of this hub is that it has an SSD enclosure so you can add on a HD up to 4TB right in there and gain a bunch more storage. That ALONE is worth buying this even if it did one other thing...truly!

If you are still reading this, you probably just said "AHA! That's why it's a $129 item!" and while yes, that is pricey for a USB hub with that added function AND everything else this does...it is absolutely worth every penny of that price and then some.

We could not be any more pleased with this item...well, except maybe me because now I'm kind of jealous and wish they made a similar item for my Mac Studio (hint, hint INVZI...?) A home run of a product - solid 5 stars!

BRILLIANT and I love it, but I do wish the color matched the iMac, and was Thunderbolt/USB 4.

Here is the review in a nutshell. BRILLIANT and I love this product, but I do wish the color matched the iMac, and was Thunderbolt/USB 4.

Okay! the good! It is USB 3.2 capable, so you will get fast read writes (capable of up to 1000Mbps) for the SSD. It is solid aluminum and well built. Love that the iMac sits on it. Not a fan of hanging dongles from the back. This is the perfect answer to that! The cable that plugs into the iMac is short and can easily be hidden which is aesthetically GREAT!

Now the bad. It is not Thunderbolt or USB4...Sad frowny face...That would have made this a 5 star product even with its other deficiencies. This being that the color does not match as it does in the pictures, and that the inlet that the iMac base sits in has sharp corners on the front. I mean, this does allow you to slide it in rather than sit it in...but if the color matched, I would prefer a sit in place rather than having the front face open.

That being said, I would still recommend this as I am nit picking over the slow adoption of USB4 and colors. I do still love this and the design goes well with the iMac. Apple should have made a dock for the iMac and the MacMini. But Apple's shortcoming gives opportunities for other companies to design great product such as these. Is it perfect? No, but it comes DAMN CLOSE!

Great hub for a Mac.

This hub is great for any Mac, but specifically the iMac because of the cutout for the iMac stand. I originally got this for use with the iMac, but I ended up using it for my Mac Mini. All the ports are high speed and transfer data fast. The built in quick release SSD enclosure is great too. I keep my documents and media on there and then eject and take it with me for use on the go. I love how the SSD enclosure uses a standard USB C interface for use without the hub. Highly recommended accessory.

Great design

This dock has a wonderful design that extends a 10 Gbps port. While I really like Apple products, I don't like how hard it is to access ports since they are hidden for aesthetics. This dock gives access to front ports for USB and a card reader. It also has an NVME dock that cleverly uses a USB-C port. This means the NVME enclosure can be popped out and taken with a laptop. This is designed to have a 24" iMac nest within the base, but there it comes with a convenient filler piece with adhesive that will allow devices with a large base to fit on top, such as a studio display. This is a very handy dock that looks great with other apple products.
